Our classic Peru journey takes you to the most famous sights in Peru such as the lost city of the Incas- the marvelous Machu Picchu. Our journey starts in the capital of Lima and continues up to the Andes mountains and the white city of Arequipa. We then drive out into the Colca Canyon where one has the possibility to see the great Andean condor. After a day tour at the Titicaca Lake, with a visit to the famous Uros floating islands, we come to Cusco the old capital for the Incas. Here we visit the sun temple and explore the sacred valley before it is time for the highlight of the journey – Machu Picchu. This trip gives you a chance to really visit the classic Peru!

Day to day presentation:

Day 1: Arrival to Lima.
At the arrival to Limas international airport you are met by a representative and are transferred to your hotel. The rest of the day is free to spend on your own.  

Day 2: Lima.
In the morning we will start the city tour, with its 2000 years of history, begins at the colonial center of the city, with its historic buildings surrounding the splendid Plaza Mayor. View the impressive Palace of the Archbishop with its fine carved balcony, the opulent Government Palace, the offical residence of the President, and the Cathedral of Lima whose first stone was laid by Pizarro. Continue to the Monasterio of San Francisco complex with its magnificent tiles, exceptional paintings and world – renowned library. Then we will visit to the Larco Herrera Museum, considered the best museum in Lima, here admire the world’s largest collection of pre-Columbian masterpieces and a stunning exhibition of gold and price jewels. Return to the hotel, free afternoon. (B)

Day 3: Lima – Arequipa.
Transfer to the airport after breakfast for your flight to Arequipa, the remarkable colonial city in the desert mountains the Andes. Remember to walk slowly and drink lots of water to acclimatize to the altitude.

The city tour starts at 2.30 pm. We will star by visiting to the Santa Catalina Monastery, the Yanahuara district which has excellent views of the Misti Volcano and return to the hotel. The tour takes around 4 hours. Back at the hotel passengers. The guide will provide information about the Colca Canyon, give times and other details as well as answer questions. (B)

Day 4: Arequipa – Colca Canyon.
We travel by bus through national parks where we can see both alpacas, lamas and vicuñas. We then arrive to the city of Chivay located at 3600 meters in the Colca Canyon. We have lunch and check into the hotel. In the afternoon it is possible to visit the tempered baths of Chivay. (is included) (B,L)

Day 5: Colca Canyon – Puno.
This morning, you will see the dramatic Colca Canyon, after the breakfast we take the bus to the lookout point. The Canyon is also home to the extraordinary Andean Condor. Although the population of condors is dwindling in South America, at the Colca Canyon you will have the rare opportunity to see them soaring gracefully on the thermal drifts created in the Canyon. From here we can observe condors ascending from the canyon going up on the strong winds to higher areas. Afterwards we will return to Chivay and take the bus to Puno, this drive can be up to about 8 hours. The journey takes you past tranquil lake lagunillas, home to a variety of birdlife, llama, sheep, and vicuña. Later you arrive in Puno, your first spectacular view is of  pristine Lake Titicaca and transfer to the hotel. (B)

Day 6: Full day tour of Titicaca lake.
After breakfast, transfer to the port in Puno. From here we will take the boat and begin to sail on the Titicaca Lake. We start by visiting the floating islands of the Uros people. You will meet a humble Aymara family and learn about their farming methods, local customs and daily struggles. Why not learn some Aymara – “Valiki” is a good word to know! We then continue with our tour to Taquile Island, here we take a walk on the island and you see Taquile village and eat a specially prepared farm lunch. Return to Puno. (B,L)

Day 7: Puno – Cusco.
In the morning, after the breakfast transfer to the bus station depart Puno and travel to the ruins of the 15th century Temple of Wiracocha in the archaeological complex at Raqchi. The bus ride can take up to 9 hours, and it will stop at different attractions along the way including La Raya, the pass which is the highest point between Puno and Cusco with excellent photo opportunities, then you arrive to Cusco and transfer to the hotel. Day 8: Cusco.
Free morning. Take time to explore some of the city’s stunning sights or shop for some of the finest handicrafts and textiles in all of Peru. In the afternoon, join your group on a tour of Cusco that takes you to the impressive Colonial Cathedral, with its collection of over 400 paintings from the Cusqueña school and to the extraordinary Temple of the Sun at Koricancha, then we will visit the fortress of Sacsayhuaman, Temple of Qenko, Fortress of Pucapucara and finally the temple of Tambomachay. Day 9: Cusco – Sacred Valley – Aguas Calientes.
After breakfast we take the bus out into the sacred valley. Our first stop is to Pisac where we visit the archeological site and then spend time at the city market. We continue to Urubamba for lunch before coming to Ollantaytambo. Here the Incas made their last stand in their defense against the Spanish conquistadors. We then take the train to Aguas Calientes. The little town located below the ruins of Machu Picchu. (B,L)

Day 10: Machu Picchu – Cusco.
We rise early to take the bus up to Machu Picchus entrance. The lost city of the Incas which was rediscovered by Hiram Bingham is beautifully located in the cloud forest on top of a mountain. We take a 2 hours guided tour of the citadel where we learn about the interesting past of Machu Picchu. After the tour you might get some time to walk around on your own. Please co-ordinate this with your local guide. 

Tip! If you are looking for an adventure you can climb the Huayana Picchu mountain. Not included in your tour and have to be pre ordered. Contact us for more information.

When we return to Aguas Calientes you have lunch on your own. If you wish you can also visit the Thermal Baths. (not included) Then we take the train back to Cusco. Please note! Some trains stop in Ollantaytambo and from there you are transferred by bus back to Cusco. (B)

Day 11: Cusco – Lima.
We are transferred to the airport to take the flight back to Lima. At the arrival we are transferred to our hotel. The rest of the day is free to spend on your own. Explore Miraflores or do some last minute shopping at the Indian markets. (B)

Day 12: Departure.
You are transferred to the airport for your flight home or onward journey. (B)
