This tour takes you to two countries in South America. We start in Peru where we visit the country’s capital Lima before moving up into the Andes Mountain. Here we visit Cusco – the capital of the Inca kingdom. We of course also visit the lost city of the Incas – the famous Machu Picchu.

We then continue to the Titicaca lake located on the border between Peru and Bolivia. We start by visiting the Peruvian side of the lake and we stay one night with a local family on one of the islands. We cross the border into Bolivia at Copacabana and continue to the country’s capital La Paz which is imbedded in between the mountains. We also have time for a visit to the archeological sight of Tiwanaku were we learn of ancient civilizations.

Tip! If you wish to prolong your journey you can take a tour to the jungle area in Bolivia called the Pampas or to the beautiful salt flats of Uyuni in the south.

Day to day presentation:

Day 1: Arrival to Lima.
At the arrival to Limas international airport you are met by a representative and are transferred to your hotel. The rest of the day is free to spend on your own. 

Day 2: Lima.
Today we take a city tour in Lima where we see the splendid Plaza Mayor, the Cathedral whose first stone was laid by Pizarro himself as well as Monasterio of San Francisco. We then visit the Larco Herrara museum which is considered one of the best in Peru. The afternoon is free to spend on your own. (B)  

Day 3: Lima – Cusco.
Transfer to the airport after breakfast for your flight to Cusco in the Peruvian Andes. This ancient capital of the inca empire is designated a UNESCO World heritage Site. Upon arrival, transfer to your hotel and spend the rest of the day acclimating to the altitude. Cusco is located on 3 600 meters so remember to walk slowly and drink plenty of water until you are acclimatized. (B)

Day 4: Cusco.
Free morning. Take time to explore some of the city’s stunning sights or shop for some of the finest handicrafts and textiles in all of Peru. In the afternoon, join on a tour of Cusco that takes you to the impressive Colonial Cathedral, with its collection of over 400 paintings from the Cusqueña school and to the extraordinary Temple of the Sun at Koricancha, then we will visit the fortress of Sacsayhuaman, Temple of Qenko, Fortress of Pucapucara and finally the temple of Tambomachay. Day 5: Cusco – Sacred Valley – Aguas Calientes.
After breakfast we take the bus out into the sacred valley. Our first stop is to Pisac where we visit the archeological site and then spend time at the city market. We continue to Urubamba for lunch before coming to Ollantaytambo. Here the Incas made their last stand in their defense against the Spanish conquistadors. We then take the train to Aguas Calientes. The little town located below the ruins of Machu Picchu. (B,L)

Day 6: Machu Picchu – Cusco.
We rise early to take the bus up to Machu Picchus entrance. The lost city of the Incas which was rediscovered by Hiram Bingham is beautifully located in the cloud forest on top of a mountain. We take a 2 hours guided tour of the citadel where we learn about the interesting past of Machu Picchu. After the tour you might get some time to walk around on your own. Please co-ordinate this with your local guide.
Tip! If you are looking for an adventure you can climb the Huayana Picchu mountain. Not included in your tour and have to be pre ordered. Contact us for more information.

When we return to Aguas Calientes you have lunch on your own. If you wish you can also visit the Thermal Baths. (not included) Then we take the train back to Cusco.
Please note! Some trains stop in Ollantaytambo and from there you are transferred by bus back to Cusco. (B)

Day 7: Cusco – Puno.
After the breakfast you will get transferred to the bus station. Depart Cusco early in the morning, enjoying spectacular scenery as you drive through the Andes mountain range and the Andean plain to Puno on the Peruvian side of Lake Titicaca. En route visit the 15th century Temple of Wiracocha, with its elaborate stonework, the largest Inca temple ever discovered. Raqchi remains home to many farmers, ranchers, and artisans. Then, you arrive to Puno and transfer to the hotel. (B,L)

Day 8: Puno – Titicaca Lake – Amantani Island.
After breakfast, transfer to the port in Puno. From here we will take the boat and begin to sail on the Titicaca Lake. We start by visiting the floating islands of the Uros people. You will meet a humble Aymara family and learn about their farming methods, local customs and daily struggles. Why not learn some Aymara – “Valiki” is a good word to know!

Continuing with our tour, we leave the Uros and sail to Amantani Island. Once in Amantani you will be introduced to the local hosts as you are allocated as a guest in a local family home. Dinner and breakfast will be prepared and served by the local family. In the afternoon we visit the top of the Island with Inca ruins and if the weather is good appreciate the Titicaca Lake sunset. Day 9: Amantani Island – Taquile Island – Puno.
This morning we bid farewell of our host families as we continue our tour to Taquile Island. On this peaceful island, dominated by tiered platforms, you can admire the beautiful textiles and garments while you watch the natives weaving. We take a walk on the island and you visit a Taquile village and eat a specially prepared farm lunch. Return to Puno. (B,L)

Day 10: Puno – Copacabana – La Paz.
Early morning you get transfer to the bus station. We take a tourist bus from Puno to La Paz. The bus ride can take up to 7 hours, and we will see different colonial place on the way to La Paz. Upon arrival, transfer to your hotel. (B) 

Day 11: La Paz.
The morning is free to spend on your own. Tip! Take a tour with the cable cars to the viewpoint at Mirador to admire the amazing view over La Paz and the mountains surrounding it.

In the afternoon we take a city tour in La Paz. The tour takes about 4 hours and we visit the most famous sights in the city like: The Murillo square, city hall, the cathedral and Pedro Domingo Murillos house. We also visit the famous witches’ market before the tour ends with a visit to the moon…or almost anyway. The beautiful Moon valley is located on the outskirts of La Paz and has a landscape that really resembles the moon. The evening is free to spend on your own. (B)

Day 12: La Paz – Tiwanaku – La Paz.
Today we take a full day tour to the archeological site of Tiwanaku. We visit the museum to learn about this lost culture before we walk out on the archeological site itself where we can see: Akapana pyramid, Kantatayita, the semi submereged temple, Kalasasaya, the sarcophagus of Putini, the sun gate and the Pumapunku temple. The tour last about 8 hours and ends at the return to La Paz. The evening is free to spend on your own. (B,L)  

Day 13: Departure. 
We are transferred to the airport to start our journey back home or to your onward destination. (B)
