Join us on a tour that will take you to Bolivia’s most classical sights. We start in La Paz with a visit to the witches’ market and the Moon Valley which will give you the feeling of walking on the actual moon! We then move south to visit the big silver mine in Potosi and the famous salt flat Uyuni. We fly back to La Paz and take a visit to the archeological sight of Tiwanaku were we learn of ancient civilizations.

Tips! If you wish to prolong your journey you can take a tour to the jungle area in Bolivia called the Pampas or a tour on Titicaca lake where you will meet the locals.

Day to day presentation:

Day 1: Arrival to La Paz.
At the arrival to La Paz you are met by the local staff and are transferred to your hotel where we will stay for two nights. The rest of the day is free to spend on your own and to acclimatize to the altitude. Remember to drink plenty of water and walk slowly!

Day 2: La Paz.
The morning is free to spend on your own. Take a tour with the cable cars to the viewpoint at Mirador to admire the amazing view over La Paz and the mountains surrounding it.

In the afternoon we take a city tour in La Paz. The tour takes about 4 hours and we visit the most famous sights in the city like: The Murillo square, city hall, the cathedral and Pedro Domingo Murillos house. We also visit the famous witches’ market before the tour ends with a visit to the moon…or almost anyway. The beautiful Moon valley is located on the outskirts of La Paz and has a landscape that really resembles the moon. The evening is free to spend on your own. (B) 

Day 3: La Paz – Potosi.
Today we travel by bus to the city of Potosi. The journey takes about 9 hours and we travel though a very changing landscape where we see mountains, farmlands, villages and valleys. If we are lucky, we might even get to see some lamas and alpacas that are walking along the road looking for fresh grass. At the arrival to Potosi we check into our hotel. (B) (Remember to bring some snack, sandwiches and fruit to eat on the bus!)  

Day 4: Potosi.
Today it’s time for one of our trips great adventures – a visit to the silver mine Cerro Rico! The tour starts with a visit to the mining market, a place where hundreds of miners gather to get the equipment that is necessary in order to start the journey at the mine – such as: dynamite, ammonium nitrate, detonators, lamps, drills and most important of all for the workers liquor and coca leaves.

After the visit to the market we will visit, the refinery of minerals, which has maintained active for many years. Here you will observe the amalgamation process of minerals. After the visit, we will head towards the silver mine to observe the harsh working environment of the miners as well as the actual extraction of the minerals and silver in its raw form. After our visit to the Mines, you will have free time to enjoy lunch on your own.

In the afternoon we visit the House of currency from the 1750s. The building took nearly twenty years to build and it’s architect was the famous local man Don Salvador de Vila. After the tour we return to our hotel. (B)

Day 5: Potosi – Uyuni.
We are transferred to the bus station to take the bus to Uyuni and the great salt flats. The journey takes about 4 hours. At the arrival to Uyuni we check into our hotel. The rest of the day is free to spend on your own. (B)

Day 6: Uyuni salt flats.
After breakfast we depart for the big salt flat. Our first stop is to the Train Cemetery where one can see parts of old trains that was used during the industrialization to freight salt. When Chile took over Bolivia’s coast area the rail connection was cut off and these metal-shells are now standing here as a reminder of old times past.

We continue to the village of Colchani located at the banks of the great salt flats, it serves as the main entrance to the salt desert. Here you can observe the extraction of salt in its raw and craft form.

Now it is time to drive out on the salt. It is a strange feeling to be driving on something that looks like ice but that you soon realize is indeed salt! We drive through the desert to Inkawasi Island which has an impressive collection of cactuses. Take a walk up to the top of the island to get a nice panoramic view over the salt flats.

We then continue to the salt hotel where we are gonna spend the night in rooms made of salt!
Bring a warm sweater, sunscreen, sunglasses, camera and a hat or cap. During the rain season it is good to have proper raingear. (B,L,D)

Day 7: Uyuni salt flats.
In the morning we continue to explore the salt flats. Take some funny trick photos to show up back home! During the day we visit the Tunupa vulcano with it’s Inca chullpas mummies. After lunch we take the flight back to La Paz. At the arrival we are transferred to our hotel. (B,L)

Day 8: La Paz – Tiwanaku – La Paz.
Today we take a full day tour to the archeological site of Tiwanaku. We visit the museum to learn about this lost culture before we walk out on the archeological site itself where we can see: Akapana pyramid, Kantatayita, the semi submereged temple, Kalasasaya, the sarcophagus of Putini, the sun gate and the Pumapunku temple. The tour last about 8 hours and ends at the return to La Paz. The evening is free to spend on your own. (B,L)  

Day 9: Departure. 
We are transferred to the airport to start our journey back home or to your onward destination. (B)
